Furnace Calculator

Use the calculator below to determine how much energy and money you could be saving by converting to a more energy efficient furnace!

If you have an older style furnace rated at approximately 65% efficiency and are looking to replace it with a newer model, this calculator can be used as a guideline to give you estimated energy savings and a simple payback. Follow the steps below to effectively use the calculator:

  • Step One: Enter furnace efficiencies of different high efficiency models you may be interested in purchasing.
  • Step Two: Enter costs (including installation) of different models.
  • Step Three: Enter your annual space heating consumption. If you are unsure about this figure, contact ATCO EnergySense toll free at 310-SAVE (7283) where a call representative will be happy to determine this figure for you.

NOTES:
  1. The above data illustrates possible savings when replacing an old standard furnace rated at 65% efficiency.
  2. Annual consumption will vary and is based on weather, size of home, age of home, and number of occupants. For an accurate figure of your home's space heating fuel usage, please contact ATCO EnergySense at 310-SAVE (7283) where a call representative will be happy to assist you.
  3. Furnace and operating costs will vary on individual homes.
  4. Furnace replacement costs are estimates and are to be used as a guideline only.
  5. Natural gas rates are weighted and in effect January 1, 2011.
Please note regulated natural gas rates will fluctuate on a continual basis and may vary based on your energy provider.
  6. All indoor gas-furnaces manufactured after December 31, 2009 will have to meet a minimum performance level of 90% Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE).
