Second Home Energy Assessment Checklist

To be eligible for federal rebates, your follow-up home energy assessment must be completed no later than June 30, 2012.

All materials purchased and qualifying upgrades must still be completed by March 31, 2012 (or before your post retrofit assessment – whichever comes first).

In preparing for your second home energy assessment, ALL of the following points must be completed prior to the evaluator arriving at your home:

Have your tax roll number ready.

This number can be found on your property tax assessment document, and must be provided to your evaluator at the time of your assessment.  This should be filled in on your Follow-Up Assessment Checklist [44.05 KB PFD].

Does your home qualify?

Renovations that are still in progress may make it impossible for us to complete an assessment on your home.  To conduct the assessment, your home must meet Natural Resources Canada's definition of a "habitable home" [17.16 KB PDF] at the time of each assessment.   Main points:

  • ALL dry wall on interior walls (with exterior exposure) must be intact
  • ALL doors and windows must be in place

Complete the checklist.

Download and complete the follow-up assessment checklist [44.05 KB PDF] prior to the evaluator arriving at your home.  Main points:

  • Include your TAX ROLL NUMBER
  • Clean ashes out of your wood-burning fireplace
  • Ensure someone over the age of 18 is present for the duration of the evaluation
  • Check off all of the improvements you made to your home, and ensure you have proper documentation for each.

Planning an addition to your home?

Renovations that are part of an addition made to a property following the pre-retrofit evaluation (first assessment) are not eligible for a retrofit grant and may reduce the grant amount for the improvement(s) done on the existing portion of your home.  Consult your energy advisor.

At the time you scheduled your follow-up evaluation, if you did not mention to the call representative that you added an addition to your home, please call back at 310-SAVE (7283).  Extra time may need to be scheduled for your home assessment.

Counting on grants? Make sure your upgrades meet criteria.

Gather any documentation that might be necessary to prove that your renovation(s) meets the requirements laid out in the ecoENERGY Grant Table and the provincial rebate table [642.22 KB PDF].

Replacing a furnace?

Don't forget to apply for a provincial rebate!

To apply, visit the Climate Change Central website. Ensure your furnace meets the eligibility criteria.  If so, click the Apply Now button for online application (faster processing) or print a paper application.  You can also call their call centre at 1-888-537-7202.

Provide original receipts.
Homeowners are now required to provide dated receipts to their energy advisor at the time of the follow-up assessment to confirm eligibility for the grant.  These receipts must include all supplies they have purchased to complete the work on their own and for the work that has been completed by contractors.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

If ATCO EnergySense is completing your follow-up evaluation but did NOT complete your initial home energy assessment, an additional $50 fee will apply.
