  Getting an Assessment?

First Home Energy Assessment Checklist

To qualify for the first home energy assessment, you must have registered with Natural Resources Canada as of January 28, 2012.

In preparing for your first home energy assessment, ALL of the following points must be completed prior to the evaluator arriving at your home:

Have your tax roll number ready.

This number can be found on your property tax assessment document, and must be provided to your evaluator at the time of your assessment.  This should be filled out on the Notice to Homeowner Waiver. [31.85 KB PDF]

Does your home qualify?

To have an energy assessment completed on your home, it must meet Natural Resources Canada's definition of a "habitable home." [17.16 KB PDF] Main points:

  • The building envelope (exterior walls, windows, doors, etc) must be intact including interior and exterior surfaces.
  • ALL doors and windows must be in place.

Complete the preparation sheet.

Download and review the preparation sheet [33.18 KB PDF] prior to the evaluator arriving at your home.  Main points:

  • Clean your wood-burning fireplace.
  • Ensure someone over the age of 18 is present for the duration of the evaluation.
  • Any upgrades completed prior to this assessment will not qualify for a grant.

Planning an addition on your home?

Renovations that are part of an addition made to a property following the pre-retrofit evaluation (first assessment) are not eligible for a retrofit grant and may reduce the grant amount for the improvement(s) done on the existing portion of your home.  Consult your energy advisor.

Review the grant table.

Review the ecoENERGY grant table and the provincial rebate table [642.22 KB PDF], and be sure to properly understand the criteria your planned renovations must meet and the grant dollars you will be eligible for.  See important notice below regarding the ecoENERGY Retrofit Program.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Once the initial or pre-retrofit evaluation is completed, you must complete the upgrades you choose no later than March 31, 2012, and obtain a post-retrofit evaluation no later than June 30, 2012 and sign an application form (which is provided by your CEA at the time of your Follow-Up appointment).  Do not delay in arranging this last step as we will book up quickly in the final weeks of the program.
