The Home Energy Assessment
The home energy assessment is a two-part process made up of the initial home assessment and the follow-up assessment. How it works: the initial assessmentThe initial home energy assessment is completed prior to any home renovation work. The assessment can take 2 to 3 hours to complete in your home. The process:1) Evaluator collects energy efficiency data for your home.2) Evaluator performs a Blower Door Test. This test identifies where air leaks occur, measures the air-tightness of the home and evaluates the risk of drawing harmful fumes from combustion appliances into the home.3) All data collected from your home is modelled in a computer program.4) A report is generated specific to your home, including a list of prioritized energy efficiency recommendations.
How it works: the follow-up assessmentThe follow-up home energy assessment is conducted once all renovation work is completed. The assessment takes roughly 30 minutes to complete in your home.During the follow-up assessment, the evaluator confirms all of the renovations that have been completed and administers another Blower Door Test.Only material purchased and work completed after June 6, 2011 and before the program end date of March 31, 2012 (or your follow-up assessment date – whichever comes first) will qualify for grants. At the time of your follow-up evaluation you will be required to provide your receipts to your Certified Energy Advisor for all work completed and material purchased. You must also keep ALL receipts for three years. Watch a follow-up home energy assessmentDeveloped by Climate Change Central, featuring ATCO EnergySense
