Facility Types

With more than 400 energy assessments under our belt for our commercial/business customers (over 20 million square feet of facility space), ATCO EnergySense has extensive experience in providing assessment services for the following facility types:

1) Commercial:  As our most diversified facility category, commercial facilities are the most difficult to address generically.  Often faced with the problem of a lack of incentives for improving a building’s energy efficiency, overcoming barriers can be challenging.

Commercial facility spaces are often leased with utility and operating costs borne by the occupants, while responsibility for facility improvements are the responsibility of the building owner or manager who do not directly benefit by lower building operating costs.  Due to the uncertainty surrounding commercial entities, long term energy improvement planning may be difficult from a business perspective to justify.

Commercial Facility Examples: warehouses, office buildings, retail outlets, agricultural facilities, large-scale residential facilities, etc.

2) Institutional: Institutional facilities are unique in that volatile markets or uncertain futures do not directly impact long-term planning.  We believe in the concept of a “lifecycle” approach when justifying major building improvements.

Institutional Facility Examples: municipal offices,  recreational facilites, schools, hospitals, seniors' homes, government facilities, etc.

3) Industrial: The primary focus for an industrial facility is the ability to produce or process a product as efficiently and inexpensively as possible.  We understand the importance of closely tying energy efficiency improvements directly to the product.

Industrial Facility Examples: water treatment plants, production facilities, fabrication facilities, etc.

4) Small Facilities: Small commercial facilities are quantitatively classified by their utility consumption.  If a facility is spending less than $10,000 annually on utility costs, having an energy assessment done on the facility may not always be a cost-effective option.

While our assessment service may not be a practical option for all small facility owners, we encourage this important market segment to contact us and tap into the Education and Outreach portion of our services.  We would be happy to discuss any concerns and potential options for viable upgrades specific to your facility.  It would be advantageous for the caller to provide as many specific details as possible regarding the facility, any heavy-use equipment, and its energy consumption: the more information we have, the more pertinent our suggestions for the facility will be.  Call us today at 310-SAVE (7283) and we’ll help you to realize your facility’s energy efficiency potential.

Small Facility Examples: churches, small retail outlets, small storage units, etc.

Regardless of your facility type, chances are you can greatly benefit from some of these advantages from improving your facility’s energy efficiency:

• increased property equity value
• demonstration of environmental stewardship
• raising community awareness and pride in your commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG)
• reduced operational costs
• enhanced public image
